Original Statue Chairman, O.D. Troutman Dies

Oscar D. "OD" Troutman, 84, who spearheaded the committee for the placement of the Metropolis, IL Superman Statue and helped create the Noel Neill Statue project died at 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, in Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, KY.

Oscar graduated from Metropolis Community High School in 1943.

He married Doris Jean Troutman on Sept.10, 1951; together they shared 59 years of marriage.

He was veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Jean Troutman; one daughter, Nancy Farley and husband, Jim, and one son, David Troutman and wife, Tracie, all of Metropolis; three sisters, Alice Davidson, Pat Calhoun and Ruth Causer; one brother, Joe Troutman; three grandsons, Adam Farley (Leah) of Nashville, Tenn., Clinton Farley (Kaitlyn) of Woodbridge, Va., and Dawson Troutman of Metropolis; granddaughter, Alexis Troutman of Metropolis; and two great-granddaughters, Ava and Gemma.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. David and Gracie (Brown) Troutman; and three sisters, Modelle Devers, Ova Obermark; and an infant sister.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, in First Baptist Church at Sixth and Girard, in Metropolis, with the Rev. Larry Lunsford officiating. Burial with military graveside rites took place in Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Pall Bearers were Adam Farley, Clinton Farley, Jeremy Schaefer, Rick Abell, Billy McDaniel and Jon Holland.
